Past Inspiration

Sitepoint.com is a website that stands out amongst all others. Sitepoint helped me establish a small web design business in Adelaide. Having a bit of time off lately I have been revisiting the site and it’s to see the many changes that have occurred in the past 6 years. Things that I have noticed changes have been the introduction of smart phones and tablets. This has changed how we view websites. Working away from the office these days I have noticed that I spend a lot of time on my iPhone searching the internet. I don’t own an iPad (yet) but I know these have been incredibly popular. There is currently rumours flying around the net about a mini iPad being released. This makes designing the size of websites quite challenging. If your a web designer/developer you need to cater for your market, but if your clientele are using multiple media platforms to view content you need to decide whether to design a site that looks good on the web and a mobile or separate the two. Most companies seem to be employing developers to design both types. I did however recently see an article explaining how to design a site that detects your media and styles it to suit the viewers media device. This is amazing, if it works. I’m looking forward to see how this pans out and whether it becomes the norm.

When I was coding websites there was a big push towards CSS and XHTML websites. Another change I have seen is the push away from Flash driven websites. A lot more web designers seem to be using Javascript to achieve flash like results. I put this down to Apple not allowing flash software to work on Apple devices.
